The Pen Behind the Pages
My story, from the first word to the latest world
A Lifelong Wanderlust for Words
My path to becoming an author was not a straight line, but a meandering river fed by countless streams of inspiration.
Unfortunately for my parents, my passion for story telling began at a young age...with lying. I've always loved a tall tale, a lie, a fib, or whatever you choose to call it. Between telling my kindergarten teacher about my (happily married) parents being divorced and telling strangers in a gas station my (clearly plastic) babydoll was my baby sister and making up an entire false persona to give out at bars in college, telling stories has always been second nature.
From amateur liar, to preschool teacher, to mom, I've worn and continue to wear many hats. When I began writing (read professional liar) I knew I couldn't go into it as is and expect a final product worth sharing. I studied mythology, researched foreign cultures, and filled notebooks with scribbled observations and fledgling plots. Writing isn't just what I do; each word is a piece of my heart, offered to the reader as a map to a shared dream.
My goal with writing is to create characters that are reflections of us. Fake people dealing with real problems, insecurities, and hardships. If a reader can say, "I saw myself in this character," or, "I never understood that type of pain until now," then I'll have done my job.
I love mingling humor into my stories. Maybe not in a laugh out loud way, but in a why is that girl smiling at her book kind of way. If I can pull a smile from a reader, then I'll have done my second job.
My third job is the simplest, but arguably hardest. I want to engage my readers. I want them to find thorough entertainment in my stories to the point where two months later they can still recall everything they loved.
If I've done those things for you, I'd love to hear about it.
